In ContactsLaw, new contacts are created via a wizard, whose entry point is the contact search. This ensures that users always search for the contact before attempting to create a new one, helping to reduce data duplication.

If the desired contact does not already exist, the Contact creation wizard is started. The information is collected in order from most relevant to least common.

Summary information

On the first step of the wizard, the type of contact is selected (see: List of contact types). If there is an associated entity or head office contact, it is added.

All contacts must have a name that conforms to certain minimum criteria. For entity contacts, you can search the ABR to retrieve more details, including the ABN.

After entering an optional telephone number and e-mail address (as well as reviewing correspondence options), you have the option to finish the wizard and create the contact.

CRM information

If you continue, you will be able to provide CRM details, such as the contact's industry/position, prospect information and referral information. You can also finish the wizard at this point.

Communications

If you have more extensive communication details at the point of creation, you can enter unlimited phone/fax/e-mail/website details on the next screen of the wizard. You can also elect to inherit communications from the associated entity.

Addresses

On the final step of the wizard, you can enter (or inherit) the contact's addresses.

At the conclusion of contact creation, you will either (depending on how you started the process) be presented with the summary screen for the new contact or be returned to the activity that requested the contact.
